How can u soothe genital herpes?

Possible genital herpes outbreak, should I go to the ER?

  • So over the past couple of days I have been getting more and more severe sores on my labia and vaginal opening. My health insurance didn't kick in until today, so I was going to go see the doctor today only to find out that the clinics are all closed on New Year's. I believe it is my first outbreak of genital herpes, I guess it could be something else. The pain is completely unbearable that I can't even fall asleep. I have tried putting tea tree oil, baking soda, and aloe vera on the sores to soothe them after searching for methods online but all of those methods make the pain and burning 10x worse. I am wondering if I should go to the ER or wait until tomorrow and just tough through the pain? I've also been having a fever around 102 degrees, but am keeping it down a little with pain relievers. I'm female, 21 years old.

  • Answer:

I'd go to ER if the pain is unbearable.

It does sound like herpes, sorry to say. You are going to be okay, the pain and fever will subside and you will lead a normal and healthy life. Try ice packs if the pain is to much and if the fever gets any worse you may want to consider the ER, but don't go unless you really think it is necessary. The first outbreak is the worse and once you get on antiviral meds you most likely won't have any future outbreaks and if you do they will be mild.

Don't panic, you'll be ok. A fever with first outbreak is considered normal, you might also feel tender around your groin area because of swollen glands. If you've had them for a few days hopefully this will be the worst day, they should get better by themselves but will be VERY uncomfortable unless you get antiviral tablets from the doctor which will get rid of the outbreak quicker. Don't put aloe vera or tea tree on that will sting like HELL which I'm sure you've already found out. The best thing to do it wash them with clean water and then dry the area with a hair dryer on COLD. If you have any antiseptic, numbing cream like Germolene put that on sparingly but nothing else incase they get infected. Good luck, you will be ok, If you can, I would wait until tomorrow. It might feel bad but ER is really only for emergencies, this though it feels like it is not one, you won't die sweetheart. P.S Make sure you wash your hands after touching 'down there' you don't want cold sores on your face or eyes or broken skin anywhere else!

No none of those things will work on herpes sores. Try to keep them clean and dry. You can try soaking in epsom salts baths for about 10-15 minutes 1-2 times a day and take some extra strength aspirin. Do go to a doctor or clinic tomorrow and have the sores tested for herpes, I'm sorry hun but it does sound like herpes to me. Herpes causes uncomfortable or painfully itchy, tingly or burning symptoms, flu like symptoms with fever, swollen genitals, paper cut like sores or raised blisters. If the pain is driving you crazy then go to the ER. If you can tough it out until tomorrow, vvisit your regular doctor or a clinic.

The fever seems high, for an adult. Try to call your doctor; if he's off, he has someone on call, who will at least call you back. He can call a prescription, for the pain, into your pharmacy. You could be making things worse with your home remedies and like I said, the fever seems to point to something systemic and not localized, like herpes.

I think you should go hon. Sorry to say but that does sound like genital herpes to me ((hugs)) if you're in A LOT of pain take your @ss to the hospital. You have health insurance now so it should be a problem. My best friend has genital herpes and takes Valtrex you should look into that. good luck honey
