What is hepatitis a?

If you were vaccinated for Hepatitis B, what are your chances of getting chronic Hepatitis?

  • If someone was vaccinated for Hepatitis B and subsequently tests showed they caught Hepatitis B AFTER vaccination, what ate the chances it was/will be chronic Hepatitis?

  • Answer:

If you had the standard 3 vaccinations of either H-B-Vax-II or Engerix B and you have had a test which shows you have antibody levels above 30 to 50 IU/mL - You are safe. This level is low and a booster may help. About 10% of Adults over 18 do not seroconvert (develop antibodies to Hep B SAg) even after repeated vaccinations. Probably a specific immune deficiency and probably the ones who would presumably go on to chronic Hep B if infected though cell-mediated immunity is the unknown factor here

Vaccine failure is seen in low birth weight infants and children whom acquired infection with HBV in utero. Its not common in adults who are vaccinated. Usually the chronicity rate approaches 100% in these children.
