What are the chances I contracted HIV?
-
The other night I received just a tiny bit of anal sex. It was just the tip of his penis in the beginning of my rectum. It wasn't for too long either, a couple minutes. There was no blood and it did not hurt after for it wasn't too long like I said. Could someone give me some numbers like fractions, percentages? Thanks.

Answer:
HIV is not a game of possibilities and probabilities. I can give you percentage but remember not to use it to avoid testing. The chance of contracting HIV by unprotected anal sex is 1 to 100 per single exposure. Also you do not know if the person was positive or not. And there was not real penetration. So it is unlikely that you contracted HIV from the scenario that your described but still you were at risk. When we say the risk is 1 to 100 it means you can have 100 unprotected anal sex and still do not catch the virus OR you could catch it the first time you have unprotected anal sex. That is why I said you cannot rely on the numbers. You have to get tested. I suggest you test at 6-8 weeks after your exposure as almost all infected people test positive by this time. It will give you a good indication about your status but you have to confirm it with a 3 months conclusive test. I expect a negative result for you. Good luck. Keep us posted and remember to use condoms when you do not know the status of your partner.

Anal sex has the highest rate of transmission of HIV through sexual activity. If the other person IS infected, you are at risk. (There are no symptoms at first, so the other person may be infected and may not even know it yet.) You should be tested. Antibodies to HIV usually show up on tests within 3 months of infection, but in rare cases, it can take up to 6 months for them to show up. Get tested in 3 months, then retest 3 months after that.

if he is hiv negative then your chances of getting it are 0%. if he is positive obviously you are playing with fire

Is he someone that you know? Can you ask his status? Was there any precum, did you use a condom? Since it was a short time you would be in a lower percentile, but it only takes 1 time to be infected, Go get a HIV test, the window period is 3 months so I would suggest retesting after 3 month to be sure. Next time you have anal use a condom, for your safety not to mention to be clean. Check into female condoms as well- they are great for anal sex.
