Flu symptoms, small red bumps over body and itchy vagina after unprotected sex. Could it be HIV?
-
I am female and had sex with a male 11 days ago. 2 days after we had sex, I started feeling flu like symptoms coming on. I had a sore throat, fever, body aches and pains and a blocked/runny nose. The next day I was feeling extremely sick with a high fever, abdominal pain, vomitting (which quickly passed), blocked/runny nose, a very sore throat and I noticed small red bumps which looked like pimples started to appear on my arms. The next morning I woke up with a few extra bumps on my legs, back and neck. I had abot 15 in total. They were a little itchy. I also had a very itchy vagina. I went to my doctor and he told me that he thought I had a viral infection and the small bumps on my body were 'bed bugs' from the hotel I had been staying in on holidays over the previous days. The flu symptoms passed along with the bumps but now I have a very strong cough and am still left with a runny nose. My vagina is still very itchy. After searches on the internet, I have found that these symptoms are similar to those of HIV. I am very worried, but my rash wasn't as severe as the pictures look. What do you think?

Answer:
Although having unprotected sex does put you at risk for HIV and other sti's, these are not symptoms caused by HIV. Two days after sex is absolutely WAY too soon to expeience symptoms. The average time to seroconversion is 21 days, or three weeks. After this period is when you would receive ysmptoms if you were in fact infected... Though many people never get any symptoms at all of the disease. For this matter you are fine but please always use condoms for your safety an get yourself tested in 3 months to be sure. Unprotected sex not only exposes you to HIV but many other diseases. Your itching may just he a yeast infection, but as I said the possibility to contract other diseases is there. Good luck

I'm sorry to hear about you being worried this much. I agree with "eurostar" about the symptoms you explained that 2 days is way to early for the body to get sick and show symptoms. my best guess would be the flu itself. about your bumps it might be some kind of skin infection. talk to your partner about this and tell him to let you know if he has any kind of condition going on with him. since you will have to wait for at least 90 days to get tested for STDs. ask him to test for HIV if you are really concerned and find it hard to wait. A lot of places do it for free. I hope everything is fine with you. please use condoms always until you get into a monogamous relationship with only one partner that you trust and you know he is std free.
