What do doctors do to test for mono other than blood test?

I got a blood test for mono. Would the doctors be able to tell if i had HIV if they were testing for mono?

  • I have a new boyfriend and about two months ago we had sex and the condom broke. I do not know his sexual history and I'm very paranoid about Stds, particularly HIV. I also came down with an illness that lasted a few weeks. But I went to the doctor and she ordered for me to have a blood test for mono (because I have had mono before). I also know that HIV symptoms are similar to mono. My blood test came back positive for mono. I was wondering if they would have been able to tell if I had HIV through that blood test, since it was specifically ordered for mono?? I think I am being paranoid, and I am getting an HIV test next week, but I just really need some reassurance. Thank you! And please no negative responses.

  • Answer:

No, tests for mono are very different than tests for HIV and you would have had to specifically order an HIV test to tell. If you are worried about infection, you should get tested, and good luck!

No, you have to specifically request an HIV test. Go get tested to put your mind at ease.
