HELP! Graduation tomorrow morning, too SUNBURNT for gown!?
-
Before I get the whole "you shouldn't have burned in the first place" speech, I didn't do it on purpose. I was in the sun two days ago for graduation rehearsal and burnt on my shoulders and the back of my neck! The actual burn itself isn't too bad. The redness is pretty much gone, and the heat is gone. But when I tried my graduation gown on, the pain from the fabric against my skin was UNBEARABLE! I am wearing a spaghetti strap dress under my gown tomorrow. I have to wear a dress, and those are the only kinds I have. I tried putting my softest hoodie on underneath it but that hurt too! It seems any fabric at all against the back of my neck/upper shoulders is way too much pain to deal with! So this leads me to my question, Does anyone know of any overnight remedies to get rid of the pain from a MILD sunburn? Again, I'm not blistering or any of that. I've been trying aloe vera, lotion, and frequent warm showers. I even tried vinegar. I'm just terribly desperate! THANK YOU! <3

Answer:
Follow this: 1-A quick and effective remedy for sunburn is to smear a little whole milk, plain yogurt on the sunburnt areas. Let the yogurt remain on your skin until it becomes warm (about 10 to 15 minutes). Rinse it off carefully with cool water and then reapply as needed until the pain disappears. Yogurt works to restore the pH balance of your skin, helping it to heal faster. 2- your burn is mild, an over-the-counter anesthetic can relieve pain and itching, says Dr. Gossel. Look for brands that contain benzocaine, benzyl alcohol, lidocaine, or diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Aerosols are easier to apply than creams or ointments, but never spray them directly onto your face. Instead, put some on a piece of gauze or a cotton pad and rub it on your face to avoid contact with your eyes. 3-take tylenol or motrin to help with the pain Congrats and good luck. Run cool water over your burn. Don't ice, that just hurts it more. Best thing to do is to take a nice cool (not FREEZING!) shower tomorrow morning. I would know, because I am a lifeguard and I frequently get the question, HOW DO I DEAL WITH MY SUNBURN JEFF?

maybe go nude underneath but if you can't do that it just takes time if you tried all those remedies and none worked then you have to deal with it. sorry.

when i had a burn on my shoulders I just put tape on it so I could wear cloths again, but I don't were dresses so, maybe you can like get some none-shiny tape, that you can hide under your dress. Put ice on your sunburns when you can it helps the skinn cells that have been damaged die off faster. Your going to peel no mater what, its just the amout you peel is what is going to matter. Good Luck!

put some powder on your neck... i guess... hehehehe

You don't want frequent showers -- they are just drying. I actually find one hot bath works better than a shower. (Its not really hot because lukewarm feels like scalding water.) Just keep applying the lotion and use the aloe vera just before putting on the gown. Only healing, ie time, will help. In the meantime, keeping in as much moisture as possible will help it stop hurting and not start peeling and itching.
