Why is my mosquito bite spreading?

Purple rash? Mosquito bites...abit freaked out!?

  • I went to my doctor yesterday because i noticed in the morning that i had a big patch of purple spots and blotches on my upper thigh where i had scratched a bite of some sort (she said the purple was Purpura) She said its just bruising and that it will be fine as it hasnt spread anywhere else on my body and it will just fade in 2-3 weeks like a normal bruise would. But today ive scratched my stomach afew times as i have a what i think is a mosquito bite (although besides the one on my thigh i dont have any others) and ive just looked at it now and spread around the bite are lots of tiny purple dots popping up (about 18) of them. What is this?? is this more Purpura spreading? Or is this normal for a mosquito bite??

  • Answer:

The purpura is probably from the scratching rather than the mosquite bites themselves. The color comes from bleeding under the skin (like with a bruise). It could happen if you scratched with a lot of pressure. I am not a doctor, but because it happened twice now it does make me wonder. Usually bleeding doesn't happen that easily. Are you on any medications that might affect your blood or clotting? Any new medications? Have you noticed any other bruising lately? Has your diet changed? It might just be that you scratched particularly hard or something. If it never happens again, don't worry about it. But if it keeps happening you might want to follow-up with your doctor. A one-time bruise doesn't mean anything, but repeatedly bruising might.
