How to heal a picked scab on scalp?
-
As weird as it may sound to a lot of you, I'm piratically obsessed with picking scabs on my scalp. But since you clicked here you are probably someone who used to or does also and probably have done your fair share of looking around and finding out that it is indeed very common. I'm not asking on why people do it or how to stop because I've already decided to stop. But recently, I've really only picked one scab, and I'm assuming it's pretty infected because a bump has formed around it. I've tried just putting some peroxide on it, which probably is helping, but of course that just makes it scab more and it's too tempting to pick (Sorry if this sounds way too abnormal or gross for some of you! haha) So I guess my question is, does anyone know anything good to use that won't make it scab over so much before it heals. I was thinking putting neosporin on it before bed since that would condition it kind of but help it heal at the same time?

Neosporin is amazing, and you should definitely try it. I don't have exactly your problem, but I'm not grossed out by it. A scab is part of your body's natural healing process - there's really not much you can do to stop it, especially on the scalp. There's a lot of blood being forced to flow between hair and bone (that's why head wounds bleed like crazy), so even a little wound is probably going to scab no matter what you do. If it's infected, it'll probably throb and hurt more than usual when you touch it - this is what happens with zits, I think, so you'll need to squeeze the infection out. Just try to remember not to pick, I guess, or try putting a band-aid on your finger so that your nails don't work as well. Sit on your hands?
