This sounds like heat. For a dog it is different than for a human in the sense that a lot of their heat comes and goes to the behind. It's also a nerve issue with most dogs. By constant use of products, it irritates the hide and makes it worse. I have a indoor pet who holds my heart, so I got really involved in making something all natural for her for this very thing. I have a best friend whom made a shampoo and a spray for me and my pet that not only works, but I might bath my dog once every 3 months at the most. It is called "Fetch Me" and she sells it for $3.99 on her website www.dandesoap.com. The spray is mostly for insects, ticks and fleas and can be used by humans for the same thing for $6.35 an 8 oz bottle. All of it is all natural, no synthetics and safe for my children too and it has no deet. You really need the shampoo though for this problem. My dog barely scratches anymore, although they need too to stimulate the oils in their hide. Best of luck and check her out. You won't be disappointed.

If it is fleas, Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations.

You took the dog to the vet and that did nothing? Go to a different vet!! If there are no fleas or any good reason for it, then get the vet to give the dog a cortisone shot. That is what stop my Pom from scratching himself raw. The vet said often the dogs just get used to scratching and keep making it bad. He had a bad case of the fleas after visiting my daughter's house, and even after we got rid of the fleas he kept on scratching. The vet gave him one cortisone shot and he stopped.

DONT PUT IT DOWN! TAKE IT TO A GOOD VET THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. ITS MOST LIKELY A SIMPLE PROBLEM TO FIX IF U DEAL WITH IT THE RIGHT WAY. WOULD U WANT TO BE KILLED IF U HAD ITCHY SKIN ALLTHE TIME? I IUNDERSTAND THAT THE DOG MIGHT BE SUFFERING BUT JUST FIX IT. GO TO THE VET!

I wish I knew, I'm having this problem with my dog since last year. He itches till he bleeds and the area just in front of his tail is bald and raw. The vet gave me steroid cream which sort of works - it clears up then starts again. She says it's an allergy but I've been through everything and still the same problem - in fact I'm starting to wonder if he's allergic to dogs ! He's just started on antihistamines yesterday - hopefully that will help.
