Can you pick the peeling skin from your sunburn?

Should I pick the peeling skin from sunburn?

  • Is it going to affect me when Im older?? It was quite a bad sunburn but what causes the peeling aswell?? Thanks (:

  • Answer:

As you have "burned" the top layer of skin, it dies-causing the peeling and flaking. You can peel the dead skin off but don't pop any blisters as this opens an area where bacteria etc can enter. Let them pop on their own and then keep the area clean. It is hard to say if this will affect you when you are older. The people who usually end up with skin cancer are your hard core tanners who don't use the correct SPF if any at all). As a nurse, use all the protection available and don't be vain. Dying of cancer is not pretty.

probably not the best idea, your fingernails could be harbouring lots of bacteria which may lead to some kind of infection. maybe go to your gp ?
