What is good for flea bites?

Flea bites? What do they look like?

  • I have a cat, and I think her fleas are biting me. Though I can't tell because I don't actually see the fleas biting me. All the pictures on the web are like huge welts in the skin. And I know I must have gotten bitten by a flea atleast once in my life and I've never gotten wounds like that. Well, anyhow, the bites are like little lumps about a millimeter or less in diameter, and are kinda white with the skin turning a little bit reddish around it. They itch like hell, and anti-itch cream doesn't work very well on them. Then the itching and the bite goes away after like 30 minutes/an hour. Any idea what these are? Sometimes they are in pairs close to each other, which makes me think they may also be spiders. I got these after my cat was sitting on me and I was petting her. Any ideas what this is?

If you can't see them biting you, they probably aren't. We had fleas once a few years ago and they were pretty bad and you always saw them jumping on you. Those are probably flea bites. Treat your cat for fleas, you can buy Frontline Plus pretty cheap. If they're red dots on you, then that's what they are. They are very itchy too...

Sounds like flea bites to me because I have the same thing. My ankles are covered in bite places. What your going to have to do is what I'm going to have to do get some flea foggers and leave home for a while and take my dog with me and take my dog and get him dipped professionally. I myself have to use alcohol rub to stop the itching. Good luck in getting rid of them.

They sound like flea bites to me! If your cat will let you brush her, buy yoourself a flea comb & comb the fleas from your cat. If she only has a few, then you can just crush them with your fingernail on the teeth of the flea comb. If she has a lot, then you'll need to have a bowl with water & dish soap in it to dip the comb into & drown the fleas! You can also use alcohol in the bowl, but the soap seems to keep the fleas from jumping out & they drown in the mixture. As for you, all you can really do is deal with the uncomfortable feeling of the bites until your house & cat are "flea free"! You'll probably also need to bomb your house with those canisters of chemicals a few times to kill the current fleas & their eggs that will hatch 30 to 60 days after they are laid! Baby fleas are so quick, you don't see them & their bite seems to be harsher for some people. Good luck. It's just another part of being a pet owner!
