  Keloids, if they really are what you have, are indeed hard to remove. Certain people are keloid formers - they get keloids from the slightest bumps and scratches (ear piercings, immunizations, scratching, etc) and prevention of such events is the most effective way to avoid keloids. Treatment options are intralesional injection of steroids (they inject it into the keloid), surgical excision (they remove the keloid surgically, although this has a high rate of recurrence), cryosurgery (they freeze it off), radiotherapy (they bombard it with radiation), among others. If it really bothers you, the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor for a possible referral to a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon.
