How do I prevent a burn from scarring?

  • About 3 weeks ago I was burned on my arm with a cigarette, and believe it was either a 2nd or 3rd degree burn (I didn't seek any medical attention). One scab has developed and fallen off, and another scab has covered it. Is there anything I can put on it at this point to reduce any scarring?

    The best thing to use for burns is something that has a petroleum base, called Aquaphor. You can get it at any drug store. I worked for a Dermatologist and we used to use that on all the patients, after using the CO2 Laser on the face. With the laser, it is basically applying a controlled burn to the first few layers of skin. Researchers have done studies and have found that the fibroblasts knit together faster and better in something that is petroleum based. I would apply it generously to the burn and cover it before I went to bed. That way it has at least 8 hours to work and you don't have to worry about getting it on your good clothes during the day.

I think you can get those cream in pharmacy, and if u wanna use something asian (espeacially south-east one) try the extarct of something called 'gamat' or the sea cucumber

Keep the burn covered from sunlight to avoid scaring, and use an antibiotic cream to increase healing. Keep the area covered for up to a year if a third degree burn to allow the development of new skin.

Yeah! neosporin is really good you should get that.

Main thing I would say is don't pick at it. Try using neosporin, it will help it heal faster. Also, once the scabs are gone if it looks like there is a scar there are products you can buy to minimize scars (mederma). the neosporin should help a lot though.
