Answer:
Yes, this is normal with a cold. Your ear is "clogged" like your nose can become with a cold. You may develop an ear ache, at which point you may want to see a DR. Becasue you may have an ear infection at that point.

if your ear was fine before you caught the cold then you most likely have fluid behind your ear. you may want to see your dr. and get a prescription to dry it up before it goes into an ear infection.

Sounds like you ruptured your ear drum! You have a small tube that connects your throat with your middle ear called the eustacian tube. If you have air coming out of your ear when you hold your nose and blow, the tympanic membrane has come loose from it's attachment and is allowing air to flow up the eustacian tube and out your ear. Most minor ruptures of the ear drum will heal themselves, but not without consequence. There is always scar tissue formation when an ear drum ruptures. Hearing problems occur when the tiny bones of the middle ear become involved in the scaring. This is a condition called "otosclerosis." This creates what is called a "conductive hearing loss," that is, the sound waves are not transmitted as well across the tiny bones because they are bound in scar tissue. This type of hearing loss can be corrected through a procedure called a "Tympanoplasty." The bottom line is, you need to have your ear evaluated by you doctor. If there is infection , he or she can prescribe antibiotics to clear it up. If you still have hearing loss after the ear heals, you may need to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor for further evaluation!

If you do not have pain or a fever, ask your pharmacist what you can use. It sound like a head cold or borderline allergy. If you do have pain or fever you should see a doctor for the infection. The pressure on your ear does not mean there is a hearing loss. Seek the advice of the pharmacist. Linda
