What should remedies be taken for cough and fever?

My dad has really bad phlegmy cough and refuses to see a doctor (no insurance), does it sound like bronchitis?

  • I'm not too sure how it all started because I just got back for the holidays from university and my dad has this NASTYYY cough. He isn't coughing non-stop but when he does cough, it sounds really bad and almost everytime, it sounds like he's about to throw something up while he's coughing.. :( I asked him to see a doctor but he wouldn't because he doesnt have health insurance and i really wish there was something i could do to help him feel better! I'm not sure if its bronchitis, but my dad is a smoker. Since this nasty cough started, he has smoked a sh*t ton less and seems to cough a little less, but still coughing nevertheless.. i dont think he ran a fever of any sort, but i think this all started as a typical cold (the sneezing/runny nose/ accompanied by a cough) and now the cold symptoms are gone except for this cough that has gotten worse! does anyone know if they might sound like bronchitis? I know that cough drops haven't done much for him, and neither has cough medicine (the kind the doc prescribes for coughs when I have a cold or whatever). He said he can't sleep laying down because it makes him cough and so he sleeps sitting up or propped up on the couch :( my poor dad! he also complains that hes more prone to coughing when the heater is on, so the family is currently freezing but its okay! also, when we were at the mall and we walked into a store that sold car air fresheners, he started coughing like crazy (perhaps from the scents?) anyways, if this does sound like bronchitis, does anyone know any natural remedies that might help!? thank you!

  • Answer:

He can go to a city, county or community clinic and pay a fee to see a doctor and fill a prescription at Walgreens, Costco or Walmart cheap. He could have pneumonia or it could be a chest cold. Have your Dad wrap up warm in blankets. He can keep windows open to breathe better. Boil a kettle of water and let him inhale the steam, which will loosen up the phlegm so he can spit it up. Also give him tea with lemon and honey to feel better but you should go to an urgent care clinic or any local one.

He really needs to see someone, because it could be just a respiratory infection or pneumonia. In the meantime, be happy the smoking has gone down.

He really needs to see a doctor, that can be a pneumonia as well...maybe he needs antibiotics...
