What kind of Doctor takes care of you in the hospital?

• I want to become a doctor and I will become a doctor, but I don't know what kind of Doctor I want to be yet. I know there are different kind of Doctors who do different things in the hospital and then there are doctors who work in clinics. When you are in a patient room, what kind of Doctor takes care of you? Is it your Family Doctor or a specialist for your specific condition. (i.e you had a heart attack and you are treated by a cardiologist.) Are they usually internal medicine doctors? What kind of Doctors are Doctors in the ICU? How do they become them?(residencies etc.) Are there different kinds of Intensive Care Doctors. How do they become them etc?   All sorts of doctors work in hospitals so which type of doctor you see really depends on what the problem is. If you're going to your regular doctor, they're most likely a GP (general practitioner), which are usually family doctors, pathologists, internists, etc. who are trained to deal with general problems. Doctors in the ICU are usually critical care and emergency specialists. I imagine there are specialties in these areas as well such as pediatrics. You become any type of doctor through medical school, then a residency, and possibly a fellowship. Like I said before, internists can be GPs, but their area of concentration is so broad that they can work pretty much anywhere (hospital, private practice, etc.).
