Has anyone ever tried hypnotherapy to give up smoking and did it work ?

I tried hypnotherapy and for me it was a waste of time. I have now been a non-smoker for over 3 years and previously smoked for 60years frequently 80 per day. I succeeded by using a combination of patches and inhalators to start with, but after a reaction to the patches I was left with just the inhalators. Realising that each inhalator contained 10mg of nicotine and that most cigarettes contained less than 1mg made me realise that I could not be craving for nicotine. As it is legal to use the inhalators anywhere, I spent 6 months laughing at people as they rushed from a restaurant table, to have a smoke outside in the rain and wind, while I sat at the table with my nicotine fix. Eventually it dawned on me that I no longer needed to smoke. P.S. The inhalators were also cheaper than cigarettes in England.

I have heard of a lot of people trying different things and the only one I know is a new prescription pill that you can get that does actually work, sorry can't remember the name of it though! But it takes away the craving altogether, the bad effects are you sleep maybe only 5 hours a nigh, my daughter tried the gum but after a year she is hooked on that!

Both my husband and I tried it nearly 3 years ago. He hasn't smoked since. I lasted a week. although I have to say for that week I didn't even think about a cig. It cost £55 each. and the session lasted about 45 minutes[although I thought I was only in for about 15 minutes.You got a CDof the session to take home and play back whenever you wanted I thought I was aware of everything at the time. i could hear the traffic going by outside and heard the birds whistling. but obviously must have been under hypnosis to account for the time delay. the tablet the person above is talking about is called Champix and my son in law stopped using this with no side effects

my friend had acupuncture after smoking 20 a day for years. She stopped immediately and has not smoked for 15 years. She has been through miscarriages, deaths and divorce and still not smoked.

Yes my daughter - sister-in-law and various other people have tried it that I know, and all it did was to enable the hypnotherapist to have lovely holidays!!! I gave up smoking four years ago, (forty a day habit), You have to be in the right frame of mind (like dieting). My husband coughed a lot one evening, (a non smoker), and I thought to my self what if he gets lung cancer because of my smoking?. It was no good trying to cut down for me, stopped dead the next day, kept some ciggies in the house, and said to my self if I want one I can, the first few days were easy - but it got very hard after about five days - I was really craving the nicotine hit. Went on to "Nicorette Inhale" Still free of ciggies. Good Luck

No stop smoking treatment is 100% effective, but hyponotherapy can work. If not, there are lots of treatment options available now, Chantix being the most effective. I'd say it's reached the point where anyone can stop if they're motivated and willing to try approaches until they find one that works for them.
