Why does air come out of my eye?

Can air come out from the eye when coughing?

  • One of my friend told me, sometime he feels air coming out from the corner of his eye when coughing with keeping both of his mouth and nose closed. how is it possible, just curious..

  • Answer:

OKAY Nurse for 21 years is wrong!!!! in the inner canthus if the eye (that's corner closest to your nose) there is the "Nasolacrimal Duct" this is an open passage from the top of the nasal sinus (the inner part of you nose) to the bottom of inner canthus of your eye, that is why when you cry your nose runs because tears also drain threw this duct. This is usually a one way drain from eye to nose but some people have a weak "valve of hasner" which permits two way communication. these are the people you see on TV that can shoot fluid out of thier eyes.

your ears nose mouth and eyes are all connected to your sinuses in your skull and the air escapes through his tear ducts, little tiny holes in corner of lower eyelid

This is completely impossible. There is no way for air to get into or out of the eyes. Your friend is completely wrong.
