Asthma and bleach for killing mold?
-
I am overdue on an allergy shot making my asthma and allergies much worse so I used some spray bleach that said it killed mold in my bathroom, well maybe I'm too sensitive or used to much, but now it's all I can taste and having problems breathing, plus my eyes are really watery. I went for 3 ten minute walks outside and that helped a little, but eyes are still burning and trouble breathing. I also have extreme anxiety so I know this is lending to it. I used my peak air flow meter and it was 350 (normally 500) and my inhaler. I mean if I can type this, I'm okay, right? I also have to pee tons, so I know my body is trying to rid itself of the toxins...

Answer:
Run water over the area and ventilate as much as possible. Asthmatics should never be around harsh chemicals. My son is asthmatic. It is the catch 22 in action - you can't be near chemicals but you need mold gone as well. Next time you might try diluting the bleach with water before using it, and wearing a mask. Also, always make sure the area is well ventilated. Bleach causes the lung tissue and respiratory system to swell in anyone, in someone with asthma, this can be dangerous. After quickly diluting the area with water and making sure ventilation is established, leave the area. Don't go in there for several hours. If your symptoms persist, even through your inhaler or nebulizer, you may want to call your doc. Just cause you're conscious doesn't mean you aren't in trouble. Lay down, in an area not saturated with the fumes, and focus on your breathing.

try leaving the fan on in the bathroom and opening the window, if you have one.

Wow be careful there. My wifes normal peak is about 380.Breathing her best. Typeing this isn't a way to determin if you ok in my opinion. Your peak has dropped, do you use a nebulizer? you used it? Can you leave the house over nite to let your lungs rest? Seems calling your Dr. or going to E.R. would be best for you, they might give something for the anxiety an maybe oxygen. FINALLY don't use our asnwers inplace of medical attention, we can only make suggestions. Best of Luck I'm 1 your contacts let me know you ok real soon. Jim
