I just need some support anyone have Ideas that could help me thanks. Also I don't have the money for the new pills They came out with. All I can get is the patches

  • Answer:

I have quit as well, I haven;t had one since first week of April this year. What I did was try and distract myself whenever I felt like one, and avoided stressful situations. Do some exercising or something active that will distract you, cravings usually only last for 5 min and then they're over. Also make sure you're not around cigarettes, like don't keep a pack at home somewhere 'just in case.'

Honestly...suck it up and get read for at least three days of sheer hell and then occasional urges for the rest of your life. Its well worth it though. Give yourself some credit and do it. Mind over matter. Don't go from dependence on a blazing plant to dependence on a patch or other man-made pharmaceutical, cause then you're just giving into 'the man' and that's not cool now is it?

Its not easy. I have tried myself to give up but its hard. Try reducing at first

Turn to something else you crav on. Instead of spending that money each day/week on a box of cigarettes instead buy something else that you enjoy. It could be a certain drink, food or cake. Or just think of the money you could save from not buying a box of fags each week. :) Good luck.

First, ask yourself these three questions: Do I REALLY want to quit smoking? Am I ready to make some changes in my daily routine? Am I ready to put up with some temporary discomfort? It sounds like you are addicted to nicotine. Nicotine is a potent drug that causes changes in heart rate, blood pressure, brain chemistry and mood. Each puff delivers a powerful "shot" of nicotine to the smoker's brain within 7 seconds. You are accustomed to a daily dose of nicotine. When your nicotine level falls below the "comfort zone," you go into withdrawal which is very uncomfortable and makes you feel they need to light up again. The relaxing feeling you get from smoking is really relief of withdrawal from nicotine. The discomfort of withdrawal prevents many smokers who want to quit from succeeding. It usually takes a few tries before smokers quit for good. About 2/3 of quitters will gain weight, usually 10 pounds or less. If you can quit smoking, you can do anything! Being restless, irritable and unable to concentrate when you try to quit are signs of recovery from nicotine addiction. They may be quite strong at first but they go away with time. Using Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) can help reduce these symptoms. You’ll feel deprived if you let yourself think you're giving up a friend. Think instead about what you'll be gaining. Here's what you need to quit smoking: - A strong desire to quit. - A visit to your doctor for support and advice with your quit plan. - Your list of reasons why you want to quit. - A calendar to mark your quit date. - A list of family and friends who will support you. - Solutions for triggers that could lead you back to smoking. - A plan for getting rid of ashtrays, lighters and cigarettes. - An exercise plan (with doctor approval). - Review what did and didn't work during previous quit attempts. Apply what you have learned to quitting this time. - Get busy and do something else, ANYTHING but smoke. - BELIEVE that you CAN stop! - Tell your family and friends you're going to stop so they can support you. - Save the money you would have spent buying tobacco. It adds up! If you slip up, start over again... Don't give up! There are also free online support groups, such as LungUSA.org

You have to just STOP! I was a smoker, and it is really hard, especially when your stressed or bored, or drinking etc, but just stopping is really the only way. Also, you say your depressed? Wellbutrin is an anti-depressent. I was on it for a few years, but it is also prescribed for smokers trying to quit, so maybe that is something you could look into....

I quit with herbal remedies....I think they work the best. There are certain herbs out there that block the nicotine receptors in the brain, like lobelia and now there is an actual pill you can get called CHANTIX which does the same thing (not sure what it is made of, though). The Smoke Away remedy from Walgreens has these herbs. They don't help you with the mental part, but they sure help with the physical. If you are on MSN, there is a great group that is really supportive-Freedom from Tobacco. For something to do, I painted or did latch hook rugs...kind of silly but it was something to do with my hands. When I was driving, I drank bottled water -I could finish it in the same amount of time it took me to smoke...hope this helps
