Will my smoking show on a chest x-ray?

I am going to have a chest x-ray tomorrow, and I've been smoking for about 8 month's..will it show?

  • Just wondering if my smoking will show, I smoked about 4 cigs a day for like 3 months now i'm up to half a pack or a little more...do you think it will show on the xray? Thanks

    Radiographically, one would not expect to see damage from cigarette smoke ... as far as the structural kind ... Why are you going to have an X-Ray? You could see changes from previous history ... where smoking has exacerbated asthma or bronchitis ... but damage from cigarette smoke is generally a long term proposition ... If you started smoking in your early teens .... research has shown ... since your in a growth stage ... that more harm will be done to the lungs than if you start later in life ... Stop smoking and good luck!

Possibly. I smoked 3 packs a day when smoking was 'in'. Stopped over 30 years ago; never miss it. You'll be MUCH happier, healthier & welcomed more places if you stop smoking. You don't recognize it, but YOU smell & so do your clothes & car. Save yourself AND your lungs: STOP! Try celery, carrots, etc., as a substitute to keep your mouth happy & hands busy til you're over smokes. Smoking isn't kool anymore, nor is chewing.

Actually, by the time there is radio-graphic evidence of lung damage due to cigarette smoking, the disease processed is well established and irreversible and continues even if you do quit. Roll the dice if you want.
