There is fat infiltration in certain parts of the liver. Let me explain this: Fatty liver can be caused by different things: alcohol consumption, certain kinds of medications (like steriods), weight gain, fast weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol/triglyceride levels, insulin resistance, metabolic disorders, and others. There is normally about 5% fat in a healthy liver. However, as the fat build up inside the liver, it can damage the liver cells. When the liver cells become damaged, the immune system of the body responds to this damage and cause inflammation to develop inside the liver also. The liver is surrounded by a tight membrane capsule. But with the fat build up in the liver and the inflammation..this will cause the liver to enlarge in size (hepatomegaly). Medical terms you may want to become familiar with: Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver (due to over 40+ different causes) Steatohepatitis is inflammation of the liver due to fat build up inside the liver (steato stands for fat). Focal means it is in certain areas. Diffuse means it is throughout the liver. NASH means it is Non alcohol reasons for Steatohepatitis. NAFLD means it is Non alcohol fatty liver disease Alcohol STeatohepatitis is Alcoholic causes for Steatohepatitis. Cirrhosis is death of the liver cells and scar tissue formation inside the liver...this is the very advanced stage of liver disease. Your liver is mildly enlarged and you have fat inside the liver located in different parts. It is best to discuss with your doctor about treatment for the inflammation and how to reverse this problem.
