How can you tell if a baby has pneumonia?

When is a 12 month old baby's cough serious?

  • My 12 month old baby girl has bronchitis and RSV and won't go to sleep at all. She doesn't have a fever today, but had one last night over 103 degree F. She's lost her voice and her cough makes her throw up and gag and stop breathing when she does cough. It's not constant, but it's annoying for her. Her nose is really runny and she has an ear infection too. She's on antiobiotics for her bacterial infections.... So, when can you tell if the cough is really bad or not? Or is pneumonia?

  • Answer:

If your child is having a lot of trouble breathing it can be bronchiolitis from the rsv infection. It is serious with some babies, and no matter what if she is having a lot of problems and not sleeping you should take her to the pedi doc today and if you cannot get her in take her to the local childrens hospital er, she needs to be checked. This can be serious and can develop pnemonia. A cough is severe when they have trouble breathing, ie: retractions, apnea....
