A small cheap underwater breathing device?

Are their any forms of watch (Or other device) you can buy that detects your breathing?

• I know it sounds stupid, but I know their are watches (I think) that can detect your heart beat, and I was wondering if there are any devices (if not a watch then something else) that can detect your breathing? If so, I want to purchase it for my mom. She has a problem that causes her to stop breathing during her sleep which worries me a lot because she sometimes wakes up choking and finding it extremely hard to breathe. She has a heart problem though meaning she can't have an operation to fix it as the operation will kill her as she will bleed to death quicker than they can pump blood back into her. It worries me because I'm afraid one night she will not wake up when she stops breathing and it will kill her if she doesn't - so if anyone could provide me with a link to device names that detect breathing and may sound of an alarm when breathing stops would be greatly appreciated! Price is not a problem.

You will need a doctor to prescribe the device and it may be covered by her insurance, but he will first need to make a positive diagnosis of sleep apnea. I assume that the reference to 'bleeding to death' means that she is on coumadin, a blood thinner, because she is susceptible to clots. Does she have deep vein thrombosis? Is she overweight?
