Which is cheaper, Nasonex or Nasacort?

Nasonex for ringing and blocked ears?

  • Hello All, I have had my right ear blocked for about a week as well as ringing in my right ear as well. I have seen an ear, nose and throat specialist doctor last week and he removed lots of wax as well as some cotton from my q-tips (amazing!). I can now hear again but the ringing was still there but is gradually going down. The ringing is at about 40% of what it was just 1 week ago. My doctor prescribed nasonex, (a steroid) and the doctor said that it will help decrease and eliminate the ear ringing to strengthen my ear system. My question is, does anyone else have experience with nasonex and ringing ears? I feel it is working as the ringing has reduced to about 40% of what it was last week, but how long approx will it take for the ringing to go away? I was prescribed 3 months of nasonex, if I feel better in 1 month should i stop taking nasonex?

  • Answer:

Nasonex doesn't work quickly - it usually takes 2-4 weeks to reach full strength. You might be able to speed things up by taking 12-hour Sudafed (original) or a generic version. If you notice a big improvement with Sudafed, Sudafed alone might be all that's needed. Its usually a good idea to not take any drug if you don't need it, especially a steroid. The only way to know if you need to keep taking it is to stop it and then see what happens. It might be a good idea to fill the last prescription so you have Nasonex available if you need to start back up.
