Why Is There So Much Conflicting Information On Polycythemia?

• A friend of mine has been to five reputable websites (WebMD, Mayo, etc.) - one site will say it's a cancer, others make no mention of it. Two sites say a person has 10-15 years to live with managed symptoms, the others say no change to life expectancy with managed symptoms. Can you tell me which is correct above, and cite a source if possible. Those who have experienced the disease or have a loved one who has might be the best people to answer this.

Unfortunately, many internet sites (not just this subject U are on about) do not give all the required information and do not explain in simple easy to understand terminology. Many can be very confusing and even leading the reader to absorb useless information and even "worrying" information when they should NOT. On a subject as u are mentioning NOW, incorrect information or information that can be ALARMING..can play havoc in many peoples lives,if not in the life of the sufferer. (its cruel) Stick to the doctors explanation, BUT, get a full explanation from the medical professional. Remember they (without meaning to) often speak in medical jargon.
