What does Sexual Leprosy mean?
-
I would like to know what Sexual Leprosy is? What are the signs?
-
Answer:
It is actually a misnomer, my friend. Leprosy (Hansen's disease) is NOT transferred sexually. I'm wondering whether you're referring to the article published in Time magazine about Herpes being the New Sexual Leprosy? If it is, "leprosy" is used in a derogatory manner, meaning that it's something to be hidden away and not talked about. Herpes comes about as a result of someone having the herpes simplex virus. The most common type, HSV1, is the common coldsore. HSV2, or genital herpes, is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). This, I guess, is why people wish it to be hidden away and not talked about. Sadly, once you've been infected by the herpes simplex virus, you carry it for the rest of your life. It's only when you have an actual outbreak of the condition/virus that anything is noticeable.
