What are the best ways to beat flu?

What are some ways to prevent catching the swine flu?

  • What are the best ways to stay healthy and not catch this fast spreading flu? And is it really as bad as people make it out to be? My friend recently went to the hospital to have her apendix taken out and while she was there she asked the doctor about the swine flu and he said that its not as bad as people are saying. He said it is just the same as the regular flu and that if you get medical care you will not die from it. If that is true then why is everyone freaking out over it? And is there a shot you can get to prevent it? What do the doctors tell you if you do get it?

  • Answer:

it aint that bad. its not that fast spreading and rather the media hyped it up because fear sells. there is no vaccine, however the chances of you catching this strand rather than the standard annual flu vrus are very slim. it is not even proven yet that wearing a silly looking $2 face mask prevent catching anything. people in general are idiots and fear based. media knows it, george w knew it, and both thrive or thrived off that fact. media could pound down your throat anything, remember y2k? bird flu? sars? "terror level red"? africanized killer bees migrating? come on! think for yourself, do the research, and make a decision before you end up on 5 o'clock primetime tv wearing a face mask!

No vaccine for it. Only way to prevent it is to wash your hands frequently and stay away from sick people. And yes, it is bad if you're in Mexico.

Wash hands often, stay away from sick people. As to how bad it is no one knows because it's never been here that's why everyone is scared, they just don't know but remember no american has died from it yet but some have recovered so that is good. There is no shot to prevent it yet but by this fall they should know enough about it to have one available when they give the regular flu shots if needed. If you do get it you need to rest just like the regular flu and if your temp is 104 or higher they may keep you in the hospital to Monitor you.

The swine flu is a serious problem but it isn't as serious as the media has made it to be. Every year, roughly 36000 people die of the "normal seasonal flu" and in the case of this current infection we've only had a little over a thousand. What's unique about this particular swine flu is that it is killing young adults when the seasonal variations typically effect the elderly. So to answer your question, yes it's serious but no it's not nearly as awful as people are making it out to be. People were/are freaking out about it because initially scientists and doctors didn't know where it had started or how it was transfered and then the next problem was alerting all travelers from around the world who had been to Mexico as well as foreign health agencies. The concern sprouted because of our lack of knowledge of this new virus and the health implications it COULD have. It's perfectly natural to be alert and try to head-off the potential for a sever infection. To prevent "catching it", honestly, the best way is hand washing. This goes for the "normal seasonal flu's" as well. Don't scratch your eyes or put anything in your mouth until you have washed your hands or used an alcohol gel on your hands. There used to be a vaccine for it when there was a swine flu outbreak in the 80's but the vaccine had alternate health effects and was subsequently taken off of the market. Today there isn't a vaccine but there really isn't a need for one as of yet and, besides, putting emphasis on making a vaccine for a transient infection (that will most likely just "go away) will decrease the resources for manufacturing the season flu vaccines that millions of American's use every year.
