What is the difference between germ and virus?

What is the difference between just having the aids virus verses full blown aids?

  • I am wondering what the difference is I just found out that some friends of mine have the virus and wondering what the difference is between the 2 if there is a difference. If someone can direct me to a web sight that can answer my questions.

  • Answer:

HIV is a virus that damages the immune system by killing CD4 cells, the cells our bodies use to help us fight infections. Once the CD4 cell count drops to 200 or below, the diagnosis of AIDS is given. As the CD4 count drops, the person is more vulnerable to other infections, such as colds, flu, pneumonia, and others. It is these other infections, not HIV itself, that could kill someone whose immune system is severely damaged.

Other answers

It's not the AIDS virus for a start. It is the HIV virus. Someone is described as being HIV positive when they are infected with the virus. It progresses to AIDS when the virus damages the immune system so much it cannot function properly and leaves someone open to certain opportunistic infections (eg, certain usually uncommon cancers, types of pneumonia...)
