Whats going on with these swine flu fatality figures?
-
Im sure I read about a week ago that there were over 150 fatalities from the swine flu in Mexico. Numerous news sources reported this. Then I just read this: "Mexico's health secretary says the number of confirmed swine flu cases has risen to 473, including 19 people who died. The previous confirmed death toll was 16. Jose Angel Cordova is urging citizens not to let their guard down against a virus that has killed 17 people and is spreading across Asia and Europe. Experts warned the virus could mutate and come back with a vengeance" So which one is it?

Answer:
The media report everything in the terms that suit selling their services - as alarming as possible. If you had read/watched/listened CLOSELY there were NO confirmed figures from Mexico. Of course, it's possible a distaster is being contained and covered up but more likely institutional incompetence and a 'good public scare story' to distract from growing political scandals about expenses and cheating makes good headline ...

150 one and of the 150 deaths not all of them have been confirmed as death by swine flu. and out of mexico there have been much much less deaths from it as there is better medical treatment avaliable.
I try my best
basically they are lying because they don't want to alarm the public. the real death toll in South America is around 200-300. but thats still nothing compared to the deaths caused by "normal" flu viruses.

the lower numbers, everything else was due to other health complications or was wrongly diagnosed. Look up the regular flu's death rates, this is nothing.

firstly, hardly ANY of those cases were confirmed, secondly, we have no idea about the condition of these people, were they sickly, weak poor diet? and also, apparently the only confirmed death's in Mexico were from people who had been sick since mid-march and had not seen a doctor. it is actually less deadly than some cases of the flu which have a 1.5% mortality rate (less than 2 out of every hundred infected will die) everyone is just shitting bricks because it is a new strain-this always happens, Remember SARS? (F.Y.I. not NEARLY as bad as everyone said it would be)

20 people confirmed now according to wiki 150 people not confirmed if their deaths were from swine or something else...

Most of the 150 deaths were from co-infection (swine flu compounded with something else). The latter article was probably referencing deaths by the swine flu alone.
