Do you people even know how the swine flu progresses?

DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW THIS VIRUS WORKS? I see people panicking, but not a lot of people understanding. My mother sent this to me so that I would be informed. She told me to send it to everyone I know, so all day I've been helping to educate people on what will happen to them if they get the swine flu. Remember -- there is a cure, called Tamiflu, but there is only enough for about 10% of the US population, so you should all get it while you can. Here's what happens during swine flu: Stage One has no frank symptoms, although the victim is infectious. Blood pressure shows unusual variations, and “wagon wheel” incubator cells are present in the sputum. The flu is able to be detected through blood samples, and if it's treated at this stage, there is a 98% survival rate. Stage Two resembles the common cold, with mild symptoms such as nasal discharge, sneezing and coughing. A low-grade fever may be present. Many infected in this stage do not limit their activities; they continue to shop, travel, or work, spreading the flu. If you see a doctor during this stage, your chance of survival is 50%. Stage Three at the start may resemble asthma, bronchitis, influenza, or mononucleosis. The cold-like symptoms of Stage Two become more severe. Chills, high fever, swollen lymph glands, dizziness, weakness, and painful urination develop. Most infected in this stage go to bed or try to see a doctor. Late in this stage, the illness becomes more like pneumonia; a few infected show delirium just before entering the fourth, terminal stage. Chances of survival are around 22% if it's treated. Stage Four resembles pneumonia, bubonic plague and, in some cases, hemorrhagic fever. Breathing becomes difficult and there is much swelling in the face, neck and groin. Swollen areas turn purple, then black. There is much discharge of mucus, which may be bloody. Fever is extremely high, and delirium is common. The infected in this stage are immobilized in most—but not all—cases; as in the earlier stages, any caregiver will be infected unless he or she is immune. Death is usually caused by respiratory failure. At this point, there is a 0.1% survival rate. Thanks for reading this, and pass it on to everyone you know. Prevention is the best measure against this horrible disease.

This information is completely inaccurate and bordering on propaganda. Do not take advice from this posting. Not a lot of people understanding? What is your source? An email chain? EVERYONE should know that there is no cure for the flu. It is like the common cold - no cure, just medicine that helps you deal with the symptoms. Let me repeat that: Tamiflu is not a CURE for influenza, all it does is depress some of the symptoms associated with the flu (like Nyquil does with a cold). Some more accurate information on the Swine Flu from the CDC: How serious is swine flu infection? Like seasonal flu, swine flu in humans can vary in severity from mild to severe. Between 2005 until January 2009, 12 human cases of swine flu were detected in the U.S. with no deaths occurring. However, swine flu infection can be serious. In September 1988, a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman in Wisconsin was hospitalized for pneumonia after being infected with swine flu and died 8 days later. A swine flu outbreak in Fort Dix, New Jersey occurred in 1976 that caused more than 200 cases with serious illness in several people and one death.

I would love to know where the source of this email was... I'm not a doctor or medical researcher, but I think that if the swine flu was currently as deadly as these statistics show, the situation would be much worse. Right now there have been about 100 people in the US who have caught it, and 1 has died. That is 1 in 100, nothing like the statistics you gave. Even if you count Mexico, the statistics are nowhere close to what you gave. And the way people have been finding out about it hasn't been by simply testing everyone and thinking that they have a 98% survival rate, most of them have already show symptoms and reported them then were tested. This flu is even supposedly less deadly than the regular seasonal flu. Don't trust emails like that...they only make you freak out and panic more. Admittedly, that email could have been from statistics of a different outbreak or a potential if the virus evolves, but not the current statistics. YOU SHOULD STILL DEFINITELY GO TO THE DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS THOUGH. :) Protect yourself and others, because even if it is not this deadly yet (and hopefully never), it is still a big deal in the realm of public health. Do the research for yourself if at all possible, and it may be more helpful to send out an email with current statistics like the the CDC or World Health Organization website to educate others about the situation. :)

why do you only have enough tamiflu for 10% when Canada has more then the population of Canada, doesn't your country prepare for emergence's.but you are write about prevention.

Your 'mom' gave you some very inaccurate stats on the survival rate. Very many people get through it without any treatment at all. In fact, confirmed deaths are only 8. At no point does the survival rate drop to 50% Never during any 'stage'. Also, swine flu in no conceivable way estmates BUBONIC plague for heavens sake. Bubonic plague turns your neck black and you get buboles or big black cankers on your throat. Never does it resemble hemorrhagic fever, where blood runs from your eyes and your butt and ever opening in your body. There is some truth in some symptoms, but then there is this big peppering of pure out and out lies. I know, I had swine flu and my whole family did in 1976. There wasn't any such a thing as Tamiflu, we all just sweated it out along with a bunch of other Americans. Also, we can look at those people who have already lived through it, some without even receiving Tamiflu, and see that most of what you wrote is bunk. If you keep spreading this stuff around you are only fueling misinformation.
