I have had conjunctivitis for a month?
-
Hey, I have had conjunctivitis for a month now and I have tried two different types of eye drops, neither of them cured the infection and now I am using 'Maximeyes' Eye wash. My GP said that batheing my eyes can help cure the conjunctivitis, did he mean just bathing my eyes in sterile water or actually go out and by and eye bath or does it not really matter and while we are on the matter can an eye bath actually cure conjuncitivitis. PS: When I wake up, my eye always seems to be worse then it was when i went to bed, I have tried changing my pillow, blanket and matress covers (all at the same time btw) but this always seems to happen, any advice on how I can stop this from happening because this always seems to happen and also my conjunctivitis tends to get bad then slowly seem to be curing before shooting back up and making my eye red any idea on why this is happening. Thanks

Answer:
Make sure you have read the instructions for the Maximeyes eye wash: Directions for use: Rinse the eye bath with Maximeyes Eye Wash both before and after use. Fill the eye bath 1/3 full of Eye Wash solution. Tilt your head slightly forward and hold the eye bath at the base. Carefully position the eye bath over your eye. Open your eye whilst slowly raising your head. The Eye Wash should now wash over your eye. Very gently rock your head from side to side for at least 30 seconds. Tilt head forward again and remove eye bath, discarding any remaining eyewash. Repeat steps listed above from 2-8 for the other eye. If the eye bath is going to be used by more than one person the eye bath can be sterilised between use. This product is for use in the eyes only. Suitable for use with all types of contact lenses. I'm pretty sure he means use eye wash when he says eye bath. It's active ingredients are disinfectants but I am curious as to why your GP hasn't simply prescribed you choramphenicol eye drops. I have had bacterial conjunctivitis and I used those eye drops for 5 days and it cleared it up very well. You can buy them over the counter for about £4 also. You haven't said which eye drops you have used but it might be worth trying every thing out there. You said you used eye drops before and they didn't work, were you using them correctly? I don't want to sound patronising but it does happen. With any eye drop, you need to make sure the bottle tip doesn't ever actually touch your eye as this can then contaminate the bottle and problem not solved. In general, when you wake up it will be worse. Your eye has spent all those hours with no medication and your eyes have been closed so the 'gunk' just sits there, while during the day you blink etc. Also, if you wear contacts, don't wear them until your conjunctivitis clears up.
