Do I have an eye infection ?
-
So I had my wisdom teeth extracted a couple of months ago. I had to go on an antibiotic twice, because of a pre-extraction infection and then a post-extraction infection. Now all of a sudden 2 months later- I'm waking up in the middle of the night to an awful pain in my jaw. I've been getting infection symptoms throughout my head (head cold, sinuses, ears, throat) and now my eyes are swollen up and if I touch them underneath, they feel a little flaky or crusty. And my eyes feel very tired at times; just really sleepy. I had all of these symptoms last week, but I thought it was a head cold and I took DayQuil and put hemorrhoid cream under my eyes for the swelling (it was really bad). I figured it was just a head cold, but now that it's back, and I have even worse pain in the area of the wisdom teeth extraction, I know it was an infection all along. My question is- is this just an "inner"-infection? Or should I treat it as if I have an actual eye infection. What I mean is- Am I contagious? That's what I'm worried about. I don't want to make anyone sick. If it's caused by an infection in another area and its just spreading, is it still consider an eye infection? Are the germs the same if it's caused by an infection in another area? Does it make me contagious? Should I call out of work or stay away from friends? What should I do? Please help :)

Answer:
You are not contagious but suffering from some infections. Chloramphenicol eye drops or Gentamycin eye drops will help a lot (immediately consult your eye doctor / ophthalmologist). You may take another course of antibiotic (amoxycillin / cephradine / ciprofloxacin / azithromycin).
