Can you take Clindamycin when you have Ulcerative Colitis?
-
I usually take Amoxicillin/Penicillin but I have an infection that seems to be resistant to it. In this case Clindamycin is indicated. However I have Ulcerative Colitis (IBD - not ibs) and I am wondering if it is okay to take this antibiotic with this disease. The infection is a bone infection and no other antibiotics other than the cillins or Clindamycin are usually effective. Any suggestions are helpful-thank you!

Answer:
I would suggest talking to your doctor. I'm a student in a pharmacy program and I looked in my big fat book for you and it says that having Ulcerative Colitis is a contraindication ( meaning you should be aware of side effects before starting because it can cause harm). I'm no doctor or anything, but I hope that helps!
