What can't doctors figure out what's wrong with my throat?
-
Okay, so I work in the world's busiest airport by occupation. I handle money all day long, come in contact with thousands of people and have thousands walking by in front of me on a daily basis...sneezing, coughing, etc. I've had strep throat about 8 times over the 2 years that I have worked there, Herpangina (throat infection) once, Chicken Pox (didn't have them as a kid) once, and nearly every cold and flu known to man, it seems. I have a sore throat again. Rapid strep test was negative today, and a culture was sent to the lab, but they are of course only checking for strep. Apparently there is no universal culture where they check the sample to see WHAT it is, without knowing exactly what it is. Obviously, they don't know. I've been through this with doctors before...I don't have insurance to go to an ENT doctor. I'm not sure if I keep getting some kind of viral strep throat or what it is. My workplace is also very dusty. Theoretically, I guess it could be bad allergies, since I've been there for 2 years (I start a new job literally tomorrow and have 2 days left at my other job). But even the one who looked at my throat today said "your tonsils aren't swollen". Well, I've got freaking white, elongated sores lining the muscles on the back of my throat. They feel like razor blades in my throat sometimes, especially at night. Today, I was told that my tonsils "do no look swollen". It's red and veiny...like I can see this bright red vein on it, which is not normal. Neither are the white elongated sores. I've never been one prone to allergies, or even dust allergies. I do not feel that an allergy should hurt the back of the throat this much, either. Suggestions? My throat looks very red, but it seems that people consider that "normal" when I know that it's not because I've seen my normal throat before. I respect doctors for their hard work and goal to school and such, but sometimes they just tick me off and do not seem to know WTF they are talking about. Everyone "speculates" everything. How can I figure out what this is? Could it be some kind of viral strep throat? Will anything help that go away? It's an international airport, so there's no telling what kind of germs come from all over the world there. Even my new job is still going to be there (couldn't find a job outside of it after months and months of looking). But I'll have more freedom to move around into less dusty areas, going from place to place. I'm not sure what I have now is from dust, though. I have worked in really dusty environments in past jobs years ago and didn't have these issues.
