Swine flu symptoms?

How serious is Swine Flu and regarding symptoms?

  • How can you tell the difference between normal flu an swine flu. I was just looking at the Government (UK) website ''Should I avoid contact with people suspected of having swine flu? People with suspected swine flu will have been asked to stay at home and restrict their contact with people. Most people should continue their normal life, including going to school or work. This includes children who attend a school with a confirmed case of swine flu.'' (It's conflicting advice from what I see on there) I am looking for medical opinions here and people with medical knowledge, what are your medical opinions about this. And what to do if you suspect Swine Flu? Thank you for your replies.

  • Answer:

A doctor told me that if you see a $50 note on the ground & feel too sick to pick it up you have swine flu. It is a matter of degree. You feel really really bad. With regular flu you just feel ill.

One of the notable factors(serious symptoms) in this flu is shortness of breath at this point it is said to seek medical help and report this symptom. Another warning is to be aware you can develope another respitory illness afte/during and this should be watched closely if happens. Yes there is some confusion with the advice the way it is written and seems to want to ease fears and at the same time tell us the virus is serious. lets break down what it is saying. ''Should I avoid contact with people suspected of having swine flu? People with suspected swine flu will have been asked to stay at home and restrict their contact with people. : here it is saying that people who have been diagnosed or have suspsions they are ill to limit public contact and stay home. Of course we should avoid those who are sick, Yet at the same time I need to go about my life and perhaps a roomate or family will get sick. In my opnion I should have my cupboards stocked including my medcine cabinet to ease symptoms. In case I get ill or family(living with me) If alone I need a "flu buddie" someone who can deliver messages or medcines etc.. "Most people should continue their normal life, including going to school or work. This includes children who attend a school with a confirmed case of swine flu.'' :Here I am thinking unless you have a serious illness or a child you care for with immune sytem illness, lung, heart conditions. Some people will make arrangments to work different shifts to limit exposure with this situation, some may even plan to work from home or a combination. Some will plan to educate the children at home. I have had some trouble with the powers that be writing and anouncing conflicting information. So from my understanding I want to avoid people who are ill as much as possible and this can help keep me from picking up larger amounts of the virus as it shed's. Thus keeping my exposure to a minimum. I can not avoid getting the virus over the next 2-3yrs. I personally have got my VitD(really a hormone) levels checked and have started D3 treatment.)one cheap pre treatment.) I can however do my best to limit my exposure. Very important to wash my hands. Be aware of my face touching. _____________ I am not sure what you are looking for when you ask,"And what to do if you suspect Swine Flu?" In self or others? So I may have overshot in my answer. Although the name 'swine flu' brings up a lot of extra fear and worry, it is important to note that swine flu is just an influenza A H1N1 virus.
