Help! Dizziness, Nausea - What is this being caused by?
-
Okay I am aware that there are plenty of reasons this is happening but let me explain.. I am currently taking 40mg strattera for ADHD and 100mg zoloft for anxiety. I have been on this combination of medications for 3 months. I am a full-time nursing student and I get 6-8 hours of sleep a night. Recently I have developing a lot of alarming problems. I had a sinus infection a month and a half ago and took Ceftin for it and it went away. Last week I developed swollen tonsils and glands. I then developed a sore throat and cough. My doctor gave me Biaxin because he thinks it's just another infection.. I'm worried that my symptoms are a sign of something else. I experience minor pain and tingling in the right upper quadrant of my abdomen. When I first started my medications for mental illness, I noticed some drowsiness and dizziness but nothing too serious and it passed after about a month. In the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing severe nausea and dizziness. It develops throughout the day starting at around noon. By the time I get home, I can hardly open a book to study. Last night, I broke out in a cold sweat on two different occasions, felt like I couldn't breathe, and was going to pass out. This passed and was back to just nausea and dizziness. It's really starting to affect my performance at school. Standing up causes me to get dizzier. I have constant ringing sound in my ears. And sometimes I get dizzy just by turning my head. I've had a hard time tolerating bright lights and loud noises and find it hard to do anything but lay down and close my eyes. Any similar experiences? Any opinion is welcome..

I'd recommend you to watch following document about side effects of antidepressants like Zoloft. Psychiatrists don't always say all side effects and what they actually know. It's not an overstatement to say that it can save your life. http://www.cchr.org/#/videos/making-a-killing-introduction http://www.theroadback.org/workbook.htm

The symptoms that you mention are concerning. Yes, it can be coincidentally an infection caused by bacteria and treated with antibiotic such as the first (a cephalosporin and then the second (which was (to me) aiming at the respiratory system). My concern is the variety of other symptoms which can be related to the Strattera and Zoloft. I supposed that your doctor is using assessment or monitoring rating scales (like the Vanderbilt assessment rating scale for ADHD and comorbidities) in order to evaluate if your meds are causing side effects and also to ascertain and make sure that you are focusing and making progress academically. Being on Strattera makes me think that you have tried other meds either methylphenidate group or dextroamphetamine group. Perhaps they did not agree with you. Either way, I recommend you to have your doctor put all the pieces together and re evaluate your med for ADHD. Another possibility is a viral illness (this is the time of year) affecting you with generalize symptoms and interfering with your treatment for ADHD and comorbidity. I hope this helped. Get ell soon.
