Did you get food poisoning?

Can my cousin get food poisoning this way?

  • My cousin just cooked some food and went to eat it, but when she put a mouth of chicken into her mouth, realized it was half cooked. She spat it out, and is now freaking out that she will get food poisoning. She says she tasted some of the juices on her tongue. I'm staying at her place, and she is freaking out. Wil lshe get food poisoning because of this?

  • Answer:

Well, if she didn't actualy eat it, she's fine. She's over reacting.

Possible, yes. Likely, no. Another poster mentioned that you only get food poisoning from toxins, and that is true. So technically you won't get food poisoning from poorly cooked food, but you can get a bacterial infection that would show up a few days later. Salmonella and camylobacter infections are the most common problems associated with this. If I remember correctly, salmonella has a very low infectious does, so you would only need to ingest about a 1000 bacteria (very few) to get sick. Still I wouldn't worry too much. Most chicken isn't infected to begin with, and since she spit it out it's very unlikely that she will be infected.

Most likely not, but possible. I hope she didn't swallow anything.

i don't think so since she wasn't able to swallow it so it wasn't absorbed in her system...

It does take a lot more than a taste on her tongue to get food poisoning, i had this after i ate a curry from a shop and it was the whole portion of curry, i wouldn't worry too much

Autism's Beautiful Face

I doubt it.

lol no don't worry i chucked down 3 glasses of milk realizing it was rotten. nothing happened to me but my doctors tell me i have a abnormally strong immune system so..yea. just eating it a little wouldn't cause anything. we humans are not THAT weak.

no! you dont get food poisoning because food is poorly cooked. it's from toxins of bacteria in food that has been poorly preserved(to put it simply). no cause for alarm. she can just wash her mouth to get the taste out

it is possible but unlikely, if she didnt swallow it its very unlikely that she couldve ingested enough bacteria to cause any kind of food poisoning. as you need a substantial amount. and as it was patially cooked also soem bacteria wouldve been killed.
