Has anyone ever had a Cerebral Angiogram?

Angiogram reaction.?

  • Th.e day after my angiogram I woke up to find that my face was very swollen and that the skin on by hands was peeling off.My Doctor suggested that it was a reaction to the dye,has anyone had a similar experience?

    My best friends Mother nearly died from renal failure after reacting to the dye used for her Angiogram. There is a safer alternative dye which is not used because it's more expensive which is absolutely disgraceful. If your relatively minor reaction is all you've suffered, think yourself lucky.

the dye is usually iodine based. most people have no reaction; some have a mild one, and some, a severe reaction

I got a thumping migraine the 1st time I had one, but the last 2 have been okay.It's not the best procedure to havee to have - I got a blood clot after the 2nd one I had 9 years ago but I was fine the last time. So it would seem to be the luck of the draw.

I went for a second angiogram test after 19 months after my MI, last week (4.2.08). While the doctor did not say so, he used the expensive dye (I learnt from the billing) and together with that had pumped in (or is it before the procedure was actually done?), 100 mg of Hydrocortisone. While there was nothing worth reporting from my coronary veins and the stents too were in place and there was no other blockage.....the steroid, Hydrocortisone seems to have suppressed the uneasiness and choking sensation I had when I reported to the cardiologist in the first place. I too am prone to allergies and am sensitive to Paracetomol and a number of other drugs.
