Do you realize that cholesterol DOES cause heart disease?

  • Lots of data is available. But the facts are that high cholesterol is a contributing factor in heart disease. The connection was first noted by the Framingham study. Then you have many trials such as MRFIT, ALLHAT, and JUPITER. In fact, the JUPITOR trial was stopped early because of the overwhelming evidence that Crestor ,the cholesterol lowering drug (statin) in the trial was preventing heart disease and therefore deaths and morbidity at a significant rate compared to the controls. Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors which inhibit cholesterol build-up. Statins have other benefits, such as anti-inflammation, but it is well established that these drugs lower cholesterol. There are other ways to lower cholesterol and heart disease besides statins too, such as stopping smoking, niacin, etc. Then you have autopsy studies showing cholesterol deposits in arteries that where narrowed in the coronaries (heart). Heck, even Leonardo DaVinci noted this in the late 1400's or early 1500's on his autopsies. The facts are there for all to see. There are of course other causes of heart disease, but high cholesterol is WELL ESTABLISHED as a cause of heart disease. Finally, there was that Russian figure skater who died at age 28 from a heart attack. He had extremely hugh cholesterol levels in his blood stream and high cholesterol deposition is his arteries. What cholesterol does is build up on the endothelial walls of your arteries. This cause an inflammatory reaction. A plaque builds up with a clot formation. The clot breaks off and causes a heart attack. Those that don't understand these facts are simply wrong..."flat earth" society types, who are those that still believe the world is flat despite all the evidence that the world is round. This is analogous to those who don't believe that high cholesterol is a cause of heart disease despite all the evidence that it does. Just looks at all the data from the scientists and researchers! Study after study can be found.

    You are absolutely right. But you need to clarify contributes to cause. But I know what you mean. high cholesterol is one of many causes of heart disease. I have worked in a medical research hospital where all the studies have been looked at, and indeed, high cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease, but is one of several factor involved.

No, no it doesn't. Cholesterol is ONLY asscoiated with heart disease. And it is a VERY WEAK association as Framingham showed a correlation co efficient of ONLY 0.36 Patients in JUPITER HAD LOW LDL to start the trial. Statins lowered c reactive protein. JUPITER IS EVEN MORE EVIDENCE UPON MOUNTAINS ALREADY THAT STATINS WORK BY THEIR 11 OTHER EFFECTS .not by cholesterol lowering! How about the ENHANCE trial-? ANOTHER cholesterol lowering FAILURE. Lowering LDL by 58 % in the ENHANCE trial was ACTUALLY NOT ONLY COMPLETELY USELESS BUT INCREASED PLAQUE Athersclerotic plaques are comprised of MANY things, but MOSTLY of very hard fibrousc scar tissue. It resembles a scam. It forms BETWEEN the INNER and OUTTER layer of the artery.Atheroslcerosis is NOT "wads of goo sticking to the inside of the artery walls like mud in a pipe. That old model is FALSE. They know this now. Athersocerlsis is initated by DAMAGE. Cholesterol PATHCES up these holes Cholesterol IS a REPAIR SUBSTANCE as well as a precursor to many hormones. Cholesterol is a SOLID ALCOHOL. The cholesterol theory is NOT scientifically valid. If anything STATIN DRUGS DISPROVE the cholesterol theory. Your question is too long for me to read (ADS). High cholesterol is a serious matter, but people should not be panicked. A certain amount of cholesterol is necessary to line the walls of blood vessels.

At least wait more than a couple of lines to contradict yourself. "Do you realize that cholesterol DOES cause heart disease?" With "does" in capital letters. Then third sentence you say that cholesterol is a "contributing" factor to heart disease. Cholesterol is one of the weakest of the five contributing risk factors to heart disease. Most cardiologists would rather flip a coin to see if they should treat high cholesterol rather than any scientific guesses. Framingham study is becoming less and less useful and the new data from multiple studies at Harbor UCAL, St. Francis Hospital in NY, Cleveland Clinic, and many other centers are disputing Framingham seriously. By the way, "Lisa" is absolutely right.

You see more policemen in high crime areas than in low crime areas.. Does that mean that police cause crime? Cholesterol is found by clots because it is fixing the problem. Cholesterol studies are paid for by those who make money from the cholesterol myth. Of course they prove that you must pay them to lower your cholesterol. My cholesterol is well over 300. With what I know now, I wouldn't think of trying to lower it with poisons. I took part in clinical trials of cholesterol lowering drugs for over thirteen years. I always hoped I got the placebo.I know how biased they are. There are many studies proving both sides of this issue. People believe what they want, so there is no use citing them. Liptor can cause memory loss. There are whole books (Lipitor, Thief of Memory) written on the subject. Memory loss is not listed as a possible side affect in the Liptor ads.
