Heart palpitations, dizziness, near fainting, leg weakness--should I be worried?
-
I am a 38-year-old female who has sudden onset of heart palpitations, dizziness, near fainting, and leg weakness several times a month. It comes on after I have been sitting and begin walking. I walk a few feet before it starts. I have to hold onto something or I will fall over. The symptoms last for a minute or 2, then gradually subside. My blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal. I also get fatigued very quickly when exercising. Is this something I should be worried about?

Answer:
If worry would cure you I would strongly advise it. I think getting a thorough physical including a stress test if your doctor thinks it is necessary is important. Don't worry, just do something to get to the bottom of a possible condition.

yes you should. your story tells me, it's to do with your blood pressure - sthg called postural/orthostatic hypotension. it could be due to you not drinking enough or losing blood a lot during your period --> low blood volume. you may also have anaemia that may make you feel tired/lethargic which can also precipitate this problem. you should go seek a doctor's advice. get your blood pressure taken when sitting/lying and standing. and then depending on your story, doctor may prescribe you iron tablet etc.. all the best! :)
