Has anyone ever had a Cerebral Angiogram?

Anyone had a stint put in artery?

  • I am about to have an angiogram (heart catheterzation--excuse my spelling) . What is it like? Do you feel much pain? Also, has anyone had a stint put in the artery to their heart? I am not even sure if the stint goes there or in a valve, but has anyone had that done? Knocked out for it? anything you can tell me, esp. about the angiogram, I would truly appreciate.

  • Answer:

First, you can go to WebMd.com and type in angiogram and read up on this procedure. It is a fairly short procedure, they access your vessels through your groin - that is where the largest vessels are. They use a guide wire through the catheter placed in your groin and advance it up into the vessels of your heart. Dye is then injected and they can see this on a TV screen and it will show where and if you have any clogged (occluded) vessels. If you do, they will try to open that area. If it wants to close back up and the blood flow is not improved, then they place a stent into the vessel to keep it open. You will have an IV and will be given mild sedation during the procedure. Many people go home the same day, depending on what they find during this procedure.
