Is Parkinsons Hereditary?

Is wolf, parkinsons, white syndrome hereditary?

  • ive had this condition over 25yrs. my daughter now has the same symptoms but no diagnosis.

  • Answer:

Here is some info on it: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/w/wolf_parkinson_white_syndrome/intro.htm http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4785 Just do a "google" or "yahoo" search for Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome and you'll find lots of results. Be careful about believing everything though- some sites are just trying to sell you drugs or 'natural' cures. *****EDIT***** Also, to describe a disease as 'hereditary' isn't always very informative or correct. There are often genetic predispositions to certain diseases. This, however, does not mean that a person is GUARANTEED to get that disease; rather, it indicates a higher risk for it. For instance, some women carry an altered form of a gene that is called "BRCA1 or BRCA2". This altered gene is related to a higher incidence of breast cancer BUT it doesn't mean that carriers of the gene WILL get breast cancer. Carrying these genes is NOT a death sentence. I speculate that even if researchers are yet to find genetic abnormalities linked to increased risk of wolf-parkinson-white syndrome, there still be some evidence of heritability. BUT heritability is not a 100% guarantee that family members will have the syndrome. To clarify this issue, you may wish to look up info and definitions from a reliable research/hospitial website about the meaning of "heritability/hereditary". In closing, when discussing heritability, genetic predisposition and disease risk, there are often a lot of incorrect assumptions among lay-people (and even among ppl in medicine!). Cheers :)

My daughter was diagnosed with the syndrome 2 years ago. She is 20. She had surgery to correct it, but NO , they told me it is congenital...

kimmie

hmmm like kimmie said, the disease might be congenital. But let's say for the worst that the disease is hereditary. Did your parents or grandparents had this disease? If yes, this might mean that they have passed it to you. soo It could be heredetary. But if nobody in your family has this, maybe you were jus born with it. What I suggest is to go see a doctor. He can tell you more about it
