Is blood pressure 132/91 high?

Do i have a high blood pressure?

  • Well first of all about me: Im 14 years old 5.9 heigh and i weight 134 pounds.Im very active and fit.I play a lot of sports i love running and jogging and when i find the chance i go with my father at the local stadium and jogg.I eat pretty healthy. 2-3 portions of fruits everyday but recently i have abandoned a bit my diet cause because of the exams im too busy and my mom is also so i usually dont have lunch or dinner and i make a swandich myself.. I had done some blood tests in September and my hematocrit was 43..Im a carrier of the medditaranean anemia(said it right?) so it's pretty good and in the limits.. But about 1 month ago i started experiencing palpitations after i drunk a coffee with my classmates(guess i wanted to show off a bit :/ ).(i dont smoke) that night the palps were very intense and frequent but after that i was experiencing 1-2 a day..I was convinced that they would go away but because they didnt and then 1 week ago i was very dizzy because i hadnt eaten all day and my only food was some cookies..My father took my blood pressure and it was 135/68 (note that when someone else's take my blood pressure i get too stressed and that happens too at the doc's office) i visited a cardiologist which did me a lot of tests (cardiograph? ekg, blood tests, thyroid test, blood pressure test and all sort of that) found me clear and very healthy but my heamtocrit has fallen to 39 and all the tests releated to my blood had gotten worse..He couldnt find a source for my palps i was only very anxious from 72 to 100 heart rate and when he brough the blood pressure machine(which im scared of) they went to 120..My pressure was 152/72 and he said that i had freaked out and that i needed to relax..I returned home and took my blood pressure alone which was 125/62 and the next morning it was 115/64..But one night after i had eaten (it was midnight and i had just returned from a trip) i decided to took my blood pressure and it flew over the ceiling at around 165/78.I was scared to death but then relaxed and went to bed. Then today i took it again..At first i was anxious and my heart rates went up to 100.. It showed a 145/68 then one minute later i took another one but still i was stressed.. I tried to take a book to read while the blood pressure was taken..It showed 154/72..And then i closed my ears with some headphones took the book and the blood pressure was at 120/68 (i was only a little stressed)-(note that when i take my bp i dont experience disoriantation or dizziness, neither do i at school)-)but usuadlly when i am at home i think about my bp all the time and i am thinkin that: oh my god i have high blood pressure..i will take medicines for the rest of my life...(Also none in my family had a high blood pressure and my mother has a low blood pressure..I was diagnosed 2 years ago with orthostatic hypotension) So i am asking..do i have a high blood pressure? Why i feel dizzy and disorientated? How can i stop the palpitations and control the blood pressure? Any help would be appreciated!! Also some times i feel the back of my neck burning!! Sorry for the mistakes i made! :)

  • Answer:

All that stress is causing your BP to rise. Blood pressure does fluctuate normally, and yours looks fine. The diastolic (lower figure) is a good indicator, and yours is normal even when the systolic is raised. Better to talk to your doctor about anxiety than to get so stressed about your BP. I can understand you being aware of your health in view of your Mediterranean anaemia, but normal hemacrit range is 42-52%

I am sure that most of the people that use this site have had 4 years premed training, 4 years of med school and 2 years on the job training to read and figure out what you are talking about. My grandson who is a doctor spent 10 years in school learning and 2 years of on the job training. I do not think there are to many on this site age 30 and above that have had that much medical training. See your doctor and have a list of questions to ask. There is a program on the web called Hard Copy, d/l it and then you can copy your question and take it to your doctor, the program is one I have used for years and is known as "shareware" .
