How to lower high blood pressure?
-
Last week, I went to the doctor because I was having an outbreak of chicken pox. My blood pressure was normal. I have never before this point had a high blood pressure reading. The doctor prescribed acyclovir 800 mg tablets - 5 a day for 10 days. I followed up with my gp the next day and my blood pressure was elevated. I have been monitoring it periodically for the past few days, and it has stayed high. Daily I take adderall and allegra D, which have never caused my blood pressure to elevate before. I am a female, 42. 5'3" and weight 155 lbs. I also drink coffee and coke daily. When I was 25 I did have a TIA. At the time I was on birth control pills and taking cold medicine. At that time I stopped taking birth control pills and didn't take any cold medicine for about 10 years. Doctor wants to wait and see about my blood pressure. Anybody have any information that could help me? I have stopped taking my adderal and my allegra d, and I am miserable!

Answer:
The acyclovir may be causing the temporary elevation in BP, but you should avoid caffeine during this time. Feeling miserable right now will cause an elevation in BP too, but it should pass after you are done with the acyclovir treatment. You don't say how high it is, but if it was outrageously elevated, I'm sure your doctor would have offered some type of treatment for it. If the doctor wants to wait & see, I think it will be just fine.

Well high blood pressure doesn't appear to be a problem with Acyclovir but it is with Adderall. Talk to your Doctor, maybe you could start with Allegra D again to feel better. You might want to ease up on the coffee and coca-cola, maybe change to caffeine and sugar free versions.

The Coke and coffee are the culprits - they cause dehydration, which in turn, causes high blood pressure - I could explain in detail if you want (email me). Click the link below and follow the instructions carefully (scroll - they're near the middle of the page, although the rest of the page is interesting as well).
