Can you have a stroke and not know it?

I know that rat Poison can cause a hemorrhagic stroke?

  • but is there something that might cause ishemic stroke, (loss of blood flow to the brain) my father recently had a series of ishemic strokes, my brother and I are concerned because my fathers wife, her late husband also had a series of stroke prior to his death

  • Answer:

Rat poison acts like the anticoagulation medicine ( warfarin ) and make don't allow the blood to form clots , so high levels can make bleeding in brain . But I haven't read anything about Ischemic stroke with that in fact warfarin is used in patients to prevent such attacks.

Clots are what causes ischemic strokes. Either carotid arteries clogging up (Transient Ischemic Attacks [TIA's] are usually a warning sign for this one), or broken pieces of clots going from the carotid arteries or heart to the brain. They can't come from anywhere else, because they'd have to go through the lungs first, which is impossible because they'd clog the lung arterioles or capillaries, causing a Pulmonary Embolism (PE). The bigger it is, and the larger artery, arteriole, or capillaries the clot clogs equates the the worse the damage is, either in the brain or lung.
