Can physical activity, stress be actually detrimental to your heart?

Heart problems? Serious help, please?

  • I feel like my heart has become weak or it beats too fast for a normal heart beat. I do suffer from anxiety and I am constantly checking my heart to see if it's okay. I used to smoke weed, not often, only once a week or every other week for a month or so. Then I smoked a little more for two days with a friend and I was fine. I smoked three days after that, the tiniest hit and I had an anxiety attack (I'm guessing) and I freaked out. Ever since then my heart hasn't felt the same to me. I've gone to the doctor, he's checked it three times and he says it's fine. He even ran blood tests to check for underlying problems. But I still cannot help but feel as though something is wrong with my heart. I'm only fifteen and I would work out often to keep myself in shape. I have not smoked at all since my anxiety started. I can't see why I would have a heart problem or a weak heart. Though maybe it is under a lot of stress and over worked since I did have severe anxiety for two weeks. Does it sound like my heart is giving up to you guys? Or is there something wrong with it? Please, if you have any experience or a good knowledge of the heart tell me. Problems: Shortness of breathe, trouble catching breathe, rapid heart beat, slow heartbeat, weak heart beat, When I workout my heart beats very very hard and fast. :c I'm afraid it is too weak to do physical activity and working out has helped me relieve a lot of stress but I don't want my heart to give out because I'm over working it, please, please help.

Sounds like anxiety, You are to young for heart problems. Try this. anxiety Practice relaxation techniques. When practiced regularly, relaxation techniques such as mindfulness meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and deep breathing can reduce anxiety symptoms and increase feelings of relaxation and emotional well-being. Adopt healthy eating habits. Start the day right with breakfast, and continue with frequent small meals throughout the day. Going too long without eating leads to low blood sugar, which can make you feel more anxious. Reduce alcohol and nicotine. They lead to more anxiety, not less. Exercise regularly. Exercise is a natural stress buster and anxiety reliever. To achieve the maximum benefit, aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on most days. Get enough sleep. A lack of sleep can exacerbate anxious thoughts and feelings, so try to get 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep a night. . Take care

You're ONLY 15. If the doc says you're fine, you're FINE. Tell your parents you need therapy

Hi Katie COR! It looks as if you are going through it! I certainly think that this is all due to stress reading your description. Fast heart beats, slow heart beats!! Adrenaline (epinephrine) works very quickly on the body, including on the heart. Just thinking of something can make your heart race. Of course if you get these transient arrhythmias it can also affect your breathing and cause weakness. You say that when you work out your heart beats very fast. You ought to feel mine when I play squash. Actually what you try and do is check your recovery rate, that is how long it takes to return to normal. A good time would be about 2 minutes. The trouble is if you are anticipating pulse changes, you may extend your recovery rate time because of your nervousness. I have been a medic for over 40 years and have treated people with symptoms like yours including those who have smoked the dreaded 'weed'. Best regards Pete

That's pretty much how I felt when my anxiety symptoms started. It took me months to get to the point that I could stop obsessing about it every waking moment (and once I finally did, the feeling that something was wrong started to go away). I couldn't bring myself to mow the lawn for weeks because I was convinced I was going to just drop dead in the middle of it. If your doctor has cleared you of any physical problems, then odds are it's all in your head. The trick is actually accepting that and learning to ignore the symptoms when your instincts are screaming at you that something's wrong. The next time you feel like that, try counting out loud to 50, and concentrating just on the counting. Distraction techniques would really well for me.

Take valerian - 2-4 pills at a time (gauge by how you feel) to alleviate anxiety and take up regular low-impact cardio physical exercise, preferably outdoors (clean fresh air - it means DO NOT take up jogging along major highway). If the docs ran tests on you and nothing showed up, just try to relax. You will outgrow it eventually.

Not a doctor but from what you've said and I had a friend in a similar situation, it sounds like you'll be fine. Its the anxiety like when you have a panic attack, at the time you feel like your dying and you might have even felt like your heart was beating really fast and that it was a heart attack or something. But you know now it was a panic attack. So even though you feel like something's wrong with you now and you get anxious, it's really just the anxiety mimicking the feelings of a real problem when actually you are fine. It's a vicious circle though, because you could be running at the gym and you suddenly realise your heartbeats a bit faster than normal and worry about it, causing anxiety which then means you feel like something is wrong just because your anxious. It might be worth checking on the running machines at the gym your normal heart rate and then when you start to feel bad check It again. Although anxiety will naturally lift your heart rate anyway but just because it's beating faster than normal doesn't mean it's dangerous. The main thing to tell yourself - because it is true, is that a panic attacks and anxiety can not harm you at all, it is your body trying to protect itself against a non-existent threat.
