What's the difference between a disease and a disorder?

Whats the difference between SBE and rheumtic heart disease prophylaxis?

  • And how do you manage a rheumatic heart disease patient

  • Answer:

Rheumatic Heart Disease is characterized by damaged heart valves, which do not allow the smooth flow of blood past them during heartbeats which normal heart valves allow. Instead, the blood flow is turbulent, with eddy-like currents which allow the deposition of any bacteria in the bloodstream onto the surface of the heart valves. Infections of the heart valves are called endocarditis, or more formally subacute bacterial endocarditis, or SBE for short. People with Rheumatic Heart Disease, as well as other structural abnormalities of the heart which may prediscpose to turbulent blood flow, will require prophylaxis to prevent this, consisting of oral antibiotics before, during, and after certain dental or surgical procedures which are known to have a higher risk of introducing bacteria into the bloodstream.
