  • Answer:

Razwell, you can't just post statements without backing them up. You need to provide a reputable source. That includes primary literature in the form of journal articles about studies. It does not include websites from Ravnskov, Colpo, and their buddies.

There is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. You need the good stuff but it's the bad stuff that clogs your arteries and causes heart attacks and strokes. There is lots of scientific study behind the claims.

Thats not true. Cholesterol can accumulate in your arteries causing atherosclerosis and lead to chronic hear disease. Stress indeed produces a hormone called Cortisol that upregulates fatty acid syntesis and can cause heart disease as well. I disagree with your statement

Not a question.

Maybe people should do a bit of research into what cholesterol actually is and what functions it plays in the body. Irina, you should find the info in one of your old textbooks. One function cholesterol plays is as a repair substance and is particularly high in scar tissue. So now we find cholesterol in artery plaque, but didn't Virchow show in 1858 that cholesterol is the end product of cell degeneration? So, something causes an injury, which accumulates fatty tissue, and finally cholesterol appears as the scar tissue is formed. For some reason, that defies any logic that doesn't involve financial gain, the general medical fraternity tells us that the earth is flat.. no, sorry I mean that cholesterol causes heart disease, even though it appears last. A risk factor is not the same as a causal factor. High blood cholesterol may sometimes indicate another problem, but is not the cause. Lowering cholesterol will have as much benefit as having a hair transplant. (The Framlingham Study showed baldness to also be a risk factor in heart disease). If anyone knows of a truly scientific study that shows lowering cholesterol will lower heart disease by a statistically significant amount (Relative Risk does not count), please post.
