  • Answer:

This really sounds like a panic/anxiety issue which is common at night when you are falling asleep. Just to be on the safe side, ask your GP for a 24 hour ECG/cardiac memo.

There is a fairly good chance that your main issue is one of anxiety. I suggest you have a chat with your GP.

ive had this happen to me b4 too but it was just my asthma, most of the time lung problems and heart problems are similar in what they do to you but like others have said you probably just had an anxiety attack but if ur really worried just talk to your doctor and if it keeps happening he/she can give you something to help

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (often referred to as just postural tachycardia syndrome or POTS) is a condition of dysautonomia, and more specifically, orthostatic intolerance, in which a change from the supine position to an upright position causes an abnormally large increase in heart rate, called tachycardia. This is often, but not always, accompanied by a fall in blood pressure. Several studies show a decrease in cerebral blood flow with systolic and diastolic cerebral blood flow (CBF) velocity decreased 44 and 60%, respectively [2] Patients with POTS have problems maintaining homeostasis when changing position, i.e. moving from one chair to another or reaching above their heads. Many patients also experience symptoms when stationary or even while lying down.

As the others have said, you need to see your primary care physician ASAP. It sounds as if you may be suffering from postural hypotension, meaning when you like down, your blood pressure drops dramatically and that is why you get light headed and your heart races in an attempt to pump the blood faster thereby raising your blood pressure. Your body adjusts to the change a few minutes after your lie down, that is why the "attack" stops.

This is not a sign of a heart attack but it might be a sign of an irregularity in your heart beat and unless your doctor hooks you up to a monitor or does an EKG, there is no way to tell what is going on. Go see your doctor. And, there are medications that can control some heart beat irregularities but you need a proper diagnosis first.

I had a similar experience and it went away after taking medication for anxiety. I actually thought my heart was going to stop working each time it happened and thought i was a goner. I think mine were anxiety related/panic attacks. Of course yours might not be. You should definitely see your Dr. Good luck.

I've had this problem before it was due to anxiety. It's more like a panic attack. I would go to your doctors just in case .

See a doctor. It may not be serious but if you suspect heart problems, you need a doctor, not strangers on the Internet.
